After a short time in the freezer, the simple dish sponge transforms into a handy ‘instant ice’ pack. It can be used for bruises, fever, or even to maintain temperature in a cooler box. This method creates a versatile and fully recyclable item. Unlike commercial cooling gels, the frozen sponge can be ‘thawed’ for regular use, like dishwashing or cleaning surfaces at home. Its small size makes it convenient to store in the freezer without taking up much space meant for food.

Similarly, freezing dish detergent can be quite useful. Pour it into an airtight bag and place it in the freezer to obtain an item similar to cooling gel bags. This method provides a versatile product for various needs, making less environmental impact.
Upon preparing this dish, the smell of the house reminded my teenage daughters of the potlucks held at the church on lazy Sunday afternoons
