Wash towels separately from other clothes as towels tend to absorb colors. They also shed lint, which can spread to other clothes, including wool ones.
Separate towel loads produce the best results. Separating white towels from colors is very important.
Using fabric softener on your towels can shorten their life and lighten them, they can make the fabric soft but decrease its absorbency.
