For the Dough (Bomboloni):
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

3/4 cup whole milk, lukewarm

1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Zest of 1 lemon (optional)

2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup sugar

4 large egg yolks
2 tablespoons cornstarch

For Coating:
1/2 cup granulated sugar (for rolling the bomboloni after frying)
